The Annunciation

The angel Gabriel appears to Mary to deliver the message that she is to bear the Son of God. Here I have depicted Mary kneeling with her hands covering her face, (you'd be a bit overwhelmed too if you were told such news!) with the angel standing over her, its wings wrapped around her like a cocoon. The background painting suggests a seed germinating from the yellow light coming from above. This piece was originally conceived as a terra cotta sculpture ages ago but finally brought to the wire medium. It was created simultaneously with The Nativity.
