The Nativity ~ 2001
hand enameled wire, oil on oak ~ 48" X 58"
This is my Magnum Opus to date. I wanted to see how large I could get with my Fluidikons. This piece came from a desire to depict the nativity of Jesus as a mandala. It is accomplished using a single piece of wire to depict the infant, Mary, Joseph, three wise men, animals, and even a bit of the stable and star of Bethlehem. The wire begins at the top of the infant's head and ends with the signature in the lower right corner. The piece took nearly a year to complete because of the many steps involved in the process of attaching a wire sculpture to an oil painting. It was created simultaneously with The Annuncication.
